Hello everyone once again. I know it's been a while since my previous posting (read: ranting of a mad man WITHOUT a blue box
) but recently I've had to say something about recent events:
WARNING: BELOW IS GOING TO BE MY OWN THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS REGARDING CERTAIN MATTERS. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED.
A moment of silence for Nu52 Superman/Clark Kent (2011-2016). A man who fought hard to be a hero, overcome the odds and tried his absolute best against a universe (and horrendous writing/mismanagement) that hated him for not being what THEY wanted him to be. Instead, his memory is spat on by so-called fans who don't give a rat's you-know-what about the comics and just want a version whose married to Lois Lane and will never outshine Batman (never mind the fact that the Nu52 lost his powers and STILL tried his best to be a hero while the other guy, when HE lost his powers after Infinite Crisis, was perfectly content to give up and just be Lois's husband and Daily Planet reporter, Clark Kent). To make matters worse, the editorial staff refuses to admit that they should have tried to write the character better instead of constantly rebooting the universe like a virus-infested computer. All the while, Marvel continues to move FORWARD and make changes stick in spite of their own problems behind the scenes (I'm looking at you, Joe Quesada and Spider-Man: One More Day
Nu52 Superman started off well enough but was never given a chance to define himself as this generation's Man of Steel. All of this because of people who were so hung up on superficial things (his relationship with Wonder Woman, his costume, etc...) that sites like Facebook and Twitter are quick to brush his legacy aside for the "classic" Superman, even going as far as saying that this one was the "real one" just because he was married to Lois and had a child (with no explanation whatsoever). Where were you bunch back in the early 90s when Superman was fighting to remain relevant in a morally-relativistic world? Where were you when he was being pushed through the ringer in the 2000s thanks to horrible writing from the same writers that YOU now praise? Where were you when Superman Returns
ruined what little dignity the character possessed in the movies just to make him a super-deadbeat dad for Lois's son? Where were you when Superman was constantly disrespected and downgraded just so Batman could be worshiped as top dog of the DCU? Where were you when Superman was driven off the rails for Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice
when Clark was portrayed as a super-powered idiot who cared more about being Lois Lane's personal guardian angel than DOING HIS JOB?!? NONE of you deserve to call yourselves Superman fans, because if you were, you would've held DC Comics accountable for writing better stories for the Man of Steel instead of letting Batman-fan worship and Lois Lane wanna-bes take over and royally ruin what was left of Superman/Clark's dignity.
Fare thee well, Kal-El. To me, you will always be Superman regardless. No matter what TPTB try to pass off, you're MY hero.
